This track took twenty-six days to record and master. It was ready to go as an acoustic version after about six hours after I'd finished writing it, but it was crying out to get some drums, bass and backing vocals on it. So I called on my good friend Matt for the drums, Emily for the heavenly vocals and Charlie for the solid bass. Cheers guys!
As well as taking the longest amount of time to record, "Out of Here" is also the song with the most lyrics I've ever written to date.
lyrics
I've been walking down the same old street
And all the people I meet are all the same
I've been driving round the same old town
But I will never go down a different street again
I gotta see all the world that's in front of me
No I won't waste it on the old
And I'm not sure in a year where I'm gonna be
But I know I will not be home, not be home oh no
Nothing you can do to sway me,
I'll take any job that could get me out of here
I'll write letters to all the millionaires
Maybe one of them has a ticket going spare
Cos I've been living in this bubble of a town
I don't think they know that the world is round instead of flat
I asked a man what he would do with his year
He said "I'll probably just stay here and read the news"
I gotta see all the world that's in front of me
No I won't waste it on the old
And I'm not sure in a year where I'm gonna be
But I know I will not be home, not be home oh no
I've seen New York, I've seen the Louvre and I've seen Rome
I've seen the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo
I've seen the Med, I swam the seas and I've hoisted sails
But I stayed the same until the day that I came back
But all of the world, I'm sure will stay the same
If I left now, its only me to blame
Maybe home, of all the places left
Is where I'll start to find myself
Can a postcard say what I see in you now?
That you stand off in the biggest crowds to me?
Well there's too much crazy for one person in the world
But I'll share it all with you if you come and see
We'll be gone for so long, they'll line the streets
They'll throw palm leaves at our feet as we walk
I've been aching craving I feel so prepared
For some time that we can share out of here
I gotta see all the world that's in front of me
No I won't waste it on the old
And I'm not sure in a year where I'm gonna be
But I know I will not be home, not be home oh no
I gotta see all the world that's in front of me
No I won't waste it on the old
And I'm not sure in a year where I'm gonna be
But I know I will not be home, not be home oh no
